18 Bible Affirmations for Marriage, Including the Hard Seasons
For the good seasons, the tired ones, and the seasons that need honest repair.
Most marriage advice aimed at Christian women is written for one of two situations: the newlywed, or the crisis. Very little is written for the long middle, where nothing is wrong exactly, but you have not had a real conversation in a while and you are both very tired.
That middle is where most marriages actually live, and it is where a daily practice does more than a weekend conference.
And though one may be overpowered, two can resist. Moreover, a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 · BSBA cord of three strands
The image in Ecclesiastes is practical rather than romantic. Two strands can be pulled apart; three are harder to break. It does not promise a marriage without tension. It says the thing has a centre stronger than the mood either of you is in on a given Tuesday.
That is worth remembering when the affirmations feel far from where you are. They are not a description of your marriage today. They are what you are asking God to build.

One thing these are not
1 Corinthians 13:7 says love bears all things and endures all things, and that verse has been used badly against women more than almost any other. Bearing and enduring are not instructions to tolerate abuse, and they never were.
If you are being harmed physically, sexually, financially or emotionally, that is not a season to endure with a better attitude. It is a situation to get help with. In the United States the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233, free and available at any hour. Speak to someone you trust and to a pastor or counsellor who will take it seriously. No affirmation on this page is a substitute for that.
For an ordinary tired marriage, though, the practice is simple. Pick one, say it out loud in the morning, and notice over a month whether it changes what you reach for when you are irritated.
Frequently asked questions
What does the Bible say about marriage?
It frames marriage as covenant rather than contract, built on mutual honour. Romans 12:10 calls spouses to outdo one another in showing honour, Colossians 3:14 puts love over everything else as the bond of unity, and Ecclesiastes 4:12 describes a three-stranded cord that is not quickly broken.
Can affirmations help a struggling marriage?
They can change what you bring to it, which is the part you control. They cannot substitute for honest conversation, and they cannot fix a problem only both of you together can address. For persistent conflict, a counsellor is the right step.
What if my husband is not interested in praying together?
Nothing in this practice requires two participants. These are first-person affirmations you say for yourself, about who you are and how you want to love. That is available to you regardless of where he is.
