Verses for Rest and Self Care

Sometimes the holiest thing I can do is eat something and sleep.

A Bible affirmation for rest and self care, rooted in 1 Kings 19:5-7.

Then he lay down under the broom tree and fell asleep. Suddenly an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” And he looked around, and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank and lay down again. A second time the angel of the LORD returned and touched him, saying, “Get up and eat, or the journey will be too much for you.”

Reflection

Elijah was so burned out he asked God to let him die. God didn't lecture him. He sent an angel with fresh bread and water and let him sleep. Twice. Before the next step, God took care of his body.

A prayer

Father, when I'm burned out, help me receive the simple care You provide: food, sleep and rest.
