Verses for After a Failure

God can create a clean heart in me and give me back my joy.

A Bible affirmation for after a failure, rooted in Psalm 51:10-12.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence; take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit.

Psalm 51:10-12 · BSB

Reflection

David wrote this after his adultery with Bathsheba and the cover-up that followed, the worst failure of his life. His prayer isn't for a fresh start on his own. It's create in me, restore to me. God does the rebuilding.

A prayer

Create in me a clean heart, God. Restore the joy I lost.
