Verses for Grief

I grieve, but not without hope.

A Bible affirmation for grief, rooted in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14.

Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who are without hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.

Reflection

Paul doesn't tell the Thessalonians not to grieve. He says don't grieve like those who have no hope. Christian grief is still grief. It just has a horizon: Jesus rose, and those who sleep in Him will rise too.

A prayer

Jesus, I'm grieving. Hold my sorrow, and keep the hope of resurrection in front of me.
